What does Trump’s presidency mean for the future of vaping?

Much to the surprise of many American voters, and indeed the rest of the world, Trump defied expectations in November when he was voted president of the USA. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate, was the only candidate to declare a pro-vaping position and received just three percent of the vote. Johnson opposed the FDA’s deeming e-cigarette regulations and supporting adult access to vapor products and a free market.

Although we may not know Trump’s position on many topics, one thing that is certain is that he will be eager to change President Obama’s policies. His cabinet appointments, like the Secretary of Health and Human Services, which oversees the FDA, are likely to change, which could mean reversing restrictions previously made on ecigs.

However, no one really knows where Donald Trump stands on vaping at this point. There is hope that a Republican president might create a pathway for modifying the Tobacco Control Act. This would separate vapor products from the tobacco definition imposed by regulations.

600 vapers who took part in a poll by ecig brand V2 before the US election decided Trump would be the most pro-vape candidate.

Adam Kustin, Vice President of Marketing for V2, said: “Trump is in favor of fewer government regulations in most areas and vapers are worried about e-cigarette regulations. This might explain his support. Trump is also backed by California’s Duncan Hunter, known as the ‘vaping congressman,’ which is a key endorsement in the e-cig community.” Hunter even vaped during a House hearing.
