Do you have a friend that smokes? Would he or she be open to vaping? Psychologist Christopher Russell from the Centre for Drug Misuse in Glasgow believe that vapers like yourself can play a major role in helping smokers quit.

Russel and colleagues recently published a survey called Vapers Helping Smokers featured in Forbes website. They conducted an online poll with 7,300 vapers over 12 weeks during summer 2015. Of those vapers, 5,000 had been regular smokers when they first tried vaping. The data showed overwhelmingly that vaping helps smokers quit. Here are some of the findings:

  • More than 80% of smokers had quit completely since they started vaping regularly.
  • Of the respondents who were still smoking at the time of the survey, more than 56%, had at least halved their daily smoking since starting regular vaping.
  • The average reduction was from 23 cigarettes per day pre-vaping to four per day.

The researchers asked several questions, though answers to one specific question uncovered the real power of public health: “What could smokers, who are curious about using e-cigarettes to quit smoking, learn from vapers who have quit or significantly reduced their smoking by using e-cigarettes?” Try our tobacco and menthol favour Logic Disposable Electronic Cigarettes now!

The idea of vapers helping smokers appeared to Russell as something that could start saving lives tomorrow. By assembling a loose network of potential vaping sponsors, he could introduce a vaper-smoker buddy system to the public health landscape to further arm the fight against smoking. Civic-minded vapers would sign up to be sponsors through the local vape shop or health department. Once a physician determines that a patient intends to keep smoking for the foreseeable future, he could connect him to a vape buddy to help him switch to vaping.
