A recent study conducted by scientists at British American Tobacco and MatTek Corporation revealed that e-cigarette vapor has little to no toxic effect on human airway tissue.
Scientists used a smoking robot and a 3D model of human respiratory tissue taken from a 23-year old non-smoker to conduct the tests. The objective was to measure and compare effects of ecig vapor to those of regular cigarette smoke to airway cells. After six hours, 86% of the cells exposed to regular cigarette smoke were dead and the cells exposed to ecig vapor were entirely alive and healthy. The researchers also noticed that the different formulations and concentrations tested didn’t change the results of the experiment.
“Our data suggest that e-cigarette aerosols have significantly less impact than cigarette smoke over the duration of a 6h exposure”, concludes the study. That is great news!
